Despite the widespread belief that students who have high GPA should go for medical or

engineering fields, I had a different rational for selecting dentistry as my university major. I
was concerned about how medicine, biology, materials sciences, engineering and even art are
combined in one major and this multidisciplinary and multidimensional aspect of dentistry
attracted me.
After I was accepted at Tehran University of Medical Sciences, I joined Prof. Sima Shahabi’s
research group who was supervising dental materials and laser research groups at that time.
I got interested in dental materials and had the opportunity to strengthen my knowledge
and hands-on skills in materials science and different methods and devices for materials
properties evaluations.

I joined Prof. Abbas Shokri’s research group when I started oral and maxillofacial radiology
residency program in Hamadan where I clearly found my research interests. I learned work-
ing with different imaging software, interpretation of different pathologies on conventional
radiography, CT, CBCT, MRI and ultrasound, working with laboratory instruments and
devices, solution preparations, cell harvest, cell culture, passaging and freezing cells, seeding
scaffolds and animal models studies. Currently I am supervising dental group in Tehran
University of Medical Sciences Preclinical Core Facility. Moreover, I am associate editor of

Avicenna journal of dental Research and assistant professor of oral and maxillofacial
radiology in Qazvin University of Medical Sciences.
