               Academic Title: Adjunct Faculty
               Specialty: Biomedical Imaging and Modeling/Simulation

Dr. Mirwais Wardak is an Adjunct Faculty in the Cardiovascular Institute at Stanford
University. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from the
University of Southern California with summa cum laude honors. Dr. Wardak then
went on to complete his Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in Biomedical Physics from
UCLA under the advisement of Dr. Sung-Cheng (Henry) Huang. At UCLA, he devised
methods to monitor treatment response in patients with brain tumors and Alzheimer’s
disease using PET and MR imaging. For his postdoctoral studies, Dr. Wardak attended

Stanford University to expand his research scope to cardiovascular disease after being
accepted into the Cardiovascular Imaging Training Program.
Dr. Wardak has published manuscripts in high-impact journals (e.g., Circulation,
Radiology, JCI Insight, Stroke, Clinical Cancer Research, JMRI, IEEE, Journal of
Nuclear Cardiology, Journal of Nuclear Medicine), filed two patents related to
cardiac stem cell therapy and multi-tracer PET imaging, and received prestigious
awards for his research, including 4 Young Investigator Awards. He serves on the

editorial board for several imaging journals and is a strong advocate for educating
and empowering the next generation of health technology innovators.
